Homemade Vanilla Bean Paste: Easy DIY Guide

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: About 3/4 cup 1x

Description

Make your own rich, aromatic vanilla bean paste at home with just a few simple ingredients. Perfect for baking, desserts, or elevating everyday recipes, this DIY version is cost-effective and absolutely delicious.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 5 whole vanilla beans

  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup (or food-grade glycerin)

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1 tbsp vodka (optional, for preservation)

  • 1 tsp sugar (optional, for added sweetness)

Instructions

  • Slice the Beans: Split the vanilla beans lengthwise and scrape out the seeds with a knife. Set both seeds and pods aside.

  • Simmer the Base: In a small saucepan, combine corn syrup (or glycerin), water, and sugar. Simmer on low heat until slightly thickened (3–5 minutes).

  • Add Vanilla: Stir in the vanilla seeds and pods. Simmer for another 5 minutes, then remove from heat.

  • Cool & Blend: Let the mixture cool. Remove the pods, then blend the mixture to a smooth paste if desired.

  • Bottle: Pour into a clean glass jar. Add vodka if using, and shake well. Store in the fridge or a cool, dark place.

Notes

  • Use 1 tbsp of this paste in place of 1 vanilla bean or 1 tbsp of store-bought paste.

  • Keeps up to 6 months refrigerated.

  • Try with Madagascar, Tahitian, or Mexican vanilla beans for different flavor profiles.
